Research

We conducted a brief literature review to learn about the current state of library science’s relationship with zines, as well as best practices for participatory programs. Our bibliography was incorporated into the following digital zine. The zine also attempts to advocate for the zine medium as key to the mission of public libraries.

Outreach

In order to advertise for and encourage participation in the zine contest and our workshops, we attended Pioneer Square’s First Thursday Artwalk in March and May. We set up a zine library and zine-making table at Asylum, an art collective and maker space.

Youth Programming

Fran took the lead on designing a zine workshop for youth at our local branch of the Seattle Public Library.

Adult Programming

Willow and fran co-led both a collaborative zine-making workshop for adults as well as a webinar aimed at librarians who would like to host zine-making workshops at their libraries. At the webinar, hosted by the Washington State Library, librarians reviewed the toolkit and shared their own tools and expertise.
